Marvins, Michael H. (b1941-); Near Alpine;

(MARFA, TX – October 20, 2010) Since 1984 the Big Bend & Texas Mountains Travel Association (formerly known as Big Bend Area Tourism Association or BBATA) has produced a travel guide for all of Far West Texas. Found in over 100 locations across the state, including dozens of kiosks in area retail stores, hotels, convenience stores, gas stations, etc.; regional Chambers and CVBs; all 13 TxDOT Travel Information Centers that act like “ports of entry” into the State; the State Capital Visitor Center; the airports in El Paso and Midland/Odessa; and more.
The coming year brings the 23rd edition of the guide and the third edition that will be published by Marfa Publishing, owned locally by Mercer Black. In celebration, Marfa Publishing, along with the Board of the travel association, is offering a prize to whoever can provide the perfect cover image.
The winner gets the distinguished honor of having his or her fully-credited photograph on the cover of one of the largest regional publications in the state, with a distribution and circulation over 100,000 copies annually. In addition, the people at Lajitas Golf Resort & Spa have put together a prize package worth over $1100 for the winner. It includes:
· A double occupancy room for two nights

· A $50 gift certificate towards dinner for two at the Candelilla Restaurant

· A $50 gift certificate towards dinner for two at the Ocotillo Room

· Two (2) 50-minute massages at the spa

· And, a round of golf for two at Black Jack’s Crossing, Lajitas’ new premiere golf course.

“We are fortunate to have partners in Lajitas willing to provide our winner with such a generous prize package,” says publisher Mercer Black. “Now with that said, we do have specific requirements for what will make the ‘perfect’ cover photo.”
Those requirements include that the photograph must have been taken in the area, it must meet certain size and orientation specifications, it needs to be travel photography (as opposed to fine art) and, most importantly, they are looking for images that show humans enjoying the outdoors of Far West Texas.
“That is a must,” adds Black. “We’ve had two beautiful vistas back to back and now we’re look for people at play, enjoying everything that the greater Big Bend area has to offer.”
