Marfa Public Radio (KRTS, 93.5 FM) hosts a classical music benefit concert at the Crowley Theater in Marfa on Saturday May 9 at 7 PM. This “American Masterworks” program – music for wind ensemble, choir, and piano – will feature the works of George Gershwin, Aaron Copland, Howard Hanson, and other American composers.
Justin Badgerow will be featured at the piano. The wind ensemble will be under the direction of Michael Lippard. The choir will be under the direction of Donald Freed. With more than 70 performers on stage, it will be an extraordinary event for the intimate Crowley Theater, located at El Paso and Austin streets, in Marfa. For example, pieces such as Copland’s “Promise of Living” will make full use of the whole choir and wind ensemble.
This will also be the farewell performance of Justin Badgerow, who thrilled audiences last summer with his solo piano recital at the Crowley Theater.
Tickets will be available at the door. Doors open at 6:45 PM. Showtime 7 PM. Admission is $10. All proceeds support public broadcasting in our region.
