Join Big Bend Veterans for Peace in a 3 month plan to study a book that presents the process being used by over 1,000 villages, towns and cities to create their own totally unique plans for transition to a likely future of limited oil, global warming and economic crises. Meetings will be held in the Alpine Community Center. To participate you can register by e-mailing Paul Schaefer at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 432.837.7150.
One of the founders takes us through Transition Town Totnes:
“A Transition Initiative is a community (lots of examples here) working together to look Peak Oil and Climate Change squarely in the eye and address this BIG question:
“for all those aspects of life that this community needs in order to sustain itself and thrive, how do we significantly increase resilience (to mitigate the effects of Peak Oil) and drastically reduce carbon emissions (to mitigate the effects of Climate Change)?”

If you are interested, attend a meeting. Until then check out a Transition Towns primer here.
This is an essential subject for all of West Texas! Alpine and Marfa included. Let’s have every town be a transition town!
