Not a bad list. If I were thinking in the same category I don't think I could leave out Sisters of Mercy. The Cramps, as Dr. J mentioned would fit well also. I must say, and this may show my age a little too much, that 2 albums for certain that always cause me to reflect on a different era in my life are:

1.) Marilyn Manson - Anti-Christ Superstar
Being that I grew up in a religious house, Manson's biblical antitheticism was heresy in its most delicious
form. I was addicted to this album.

2.) The Foo Fighters - The Colour and the Shape
I have no explanation for why this album remains so nostalgic aside from the general fantastic writing
and performing that went into making it.

Yo, Dr. J. I just got one question... are you a medical doctor? If so, I have a funny itch...
This is by no means a definitive list that John posted, more a jumping-off point for discussion. I appreciate your feedback and invite you to come up with an article about your own tastes...

Sorry I don't agree and it isn't that your taste is better. It is just you are young and don't know any better! Maybe the Smiths and Devo the Cure and Prince. how bout VERY early Chrissie Hines? Sonic Youth? David Byrne y Brian Eno? How bout them Cramps? Morphine? Gavin Bryers? Holgar Zuchae? Ever HEAR of any of them?
You have totally ignored the realm of acoustic music, and that is sad. Early Richard and Linda Thompson, Fairport Convention, Ray Wylie Hubbard's later music, Dave Carter (most likely too erudite for you...) It goes on and on.. Your list is not as sophisticated as you would like us to believe. And Velv. Undgrd and Nico? totally overplayed and mildly overrated, significant more only in the historical sense.

A great list... I lean more toward 'Unknown Pleasures' than 'Closer', but that is just personal taste. I just singled out 'Fables of the Reconstruction' a while back at aetherchronicles.com. It was an album that introduced me to college rock.
