SR already has a president with those qualifications - one who "mingle[s] with the commiunity . . . bring sul ross to be a school that will stand out amoung other colleges in both acadamics and sports [and] who is not afraid to make decisions that are going to better sul ross and the people who make sul ross what it is." Vic has done that and more - and has even decided to remain in Alpiine after his retirement. If that does not say a lot for the community, nothing does.

An anonymous source told me that the search for the new president was 'constrained' by arbitrary budget issues. They could fly someone in from San Antonio for instance, but not Dallas or Houston. In effect, this created a practical pool of one candidate. This is unverified, of course, so take it with a grain of salt.

I welcome any comments or views on this because it will have a long term effect on Alpine.
