The Rotary Club of Alpine will host the WAY OUT WEST TEXAS BOOK FESTIVAL, July 31 and August 1, 2009, to promote literary appreciation and benefit the Alpine Public Library and its Marathon branch.

The multifaceted event is scheduled for August 1, 2009 at the Sul Ross Espino Conference Center, 2nd Floor, University Center.

Participants will gather at 7:30 p.m., Friday, July 31, for a Meet-and-Greet under the stars, at a private home. Singer/guitarist/author Mike Blakely will entertain, and special invitees will be introduced. This ticketed event requires reservations.

Programs throughout the day Saturday, August 1, will feature authors who have written books on Western Non-Fiction, Texas Rangers, Natural History of the Big Bend, Humorous Fiction, and other topics. Some sessions will feature panels of authors hosted by a moderator, while others will highlight one or more authors.
These programs are free and open to the public.

Also on Saturday, writers, publishers, and booksellers will be selling their wares to the visiting public. If you wish to rent a vendor space, click on Vendor Info at left.

Featured authors include Laurence Parent, Joe Nick Patoski, Jeffrey McClanahan & Pam Cumbie, who write together under the pseudonym Dixie Cash; Stephen Harrigan, Sarah Bird, Elizabeth Crook, Wyatt McSpadden, Bill Neal, Paulette Jiles, Mike Cox, Carol Dawson, Karleen Koen, Mike Blakely, Scott Wiggerman, and E. Dan Klepper.
