This year’s festival will be bigger and better than ever. Mark your calendars: It will be held July 29, 30 and 31 at the Espino Conference Center (second floor, Morgan University Center), Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas.

The grand finale of this celebration of books and culture will feature The Flatlanders– Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, and Butch Hancock– performing in concert at the Pete P. Gallego Center on Saturday evening, July 31. Tickets on sale soon!

Big Bend Events

THE BIG EVENT THIS WEEKEND IS THE MARFA FILM FESTIVAL! It’s not too late to get passes at marfafilmfestival.org Here’s a schedule of all the events.

–CDRI Guided Garden Tours: The Chihuhuan Desert Research Institute will celebrate National Public Gardens Dy on Friday, May 7, with guided walks through the botanical gardens at 11 am and 2 pm. CDRI’s gardens features over 150 species of trees and shrubs from the Chihuahuan Desert region and over 200 species of cacti. Guided tours are $7.50, which includes admissions. CDRI is about 2 miles south of Fort Davis on Hwy 118. For more information call (432) 364-2499 or send an email to education@cdri.org

–Cinco de Mayo art is continuing. Stop by the Murphy Street Raspa Company and Catchlight Art Gallery in Alpine Texas on Friday for interesting art.

–Soccer Practice: The community/SRSU soccer practices Mondays, from 6-8 pm at the Sul Ross track. This is a coed team; anyone is welcome. People can join the facebook group.
